One never knows where they’ll find hinge applications and my roving hinge eye always tries to scope out where they’re being used. On a recent flight to LA, I found myself bored of sitting in my chair, so I went on my usual hinge hunt. Nothing really new to be found, but then, after washing my hands, I notice a panel by the sink in the top portion of the first picture. Pay no attention that the “Return to your seat” sign is illuminated, it’s not an integral part of the hinge story. Anyways, I examined this panel and with just a little force I was able to pry it open and low and behold, hinges!
And to my surprise, these hinges aren’t even the usual mundane MS20257 series continuous hinges, but they’re a concealed type hinge just like our 9290 or 9291 series. Specialty hinges like this are a fantastic find on a hinge hunt! Upon further inspection, I can even tell these are an extruded aluminum instead of our standard stainless or steel stock variety. The unique curved shape allows for an almost seamless look on the outside yet allows the panel to hinge outwards when pried open with some pressure and a regular household car key.
So next time you’re out and about, if you do a little scoping, checking and hunting, I’m sure you’ll find some hinges somewhere, and I’d definitely love to hear your hinge find story! I know I’ll have another one of my own soon enough!
