I'm on my 3rd or 4th fuel door hinge because the slotted tabs that hold the spring keep breaking so this time I reinforced the new plastic hinge with some wire. This won't keep the hinge from breaking if the fuel door is really tweaked but I'm hoping it will hold the spring in place and keep it working even if the slotted tabs break off again, which I'm sure they eventually will. I used 16 gauge wire, drilled a couple of holes in the new hinge before installing, added the wire and then bent the wire around the spring as shown in the pictures.
