Brewer says union bills hinge on personnel changes | Washington ...

Gov. Jan Brewer is warning Arizona lawmakers that she won't consider bills on public employee unions before the Legislature approves her proposed changes to the state government's personnel system.

A Senate committee on Wednesday endorsed four Republican bills to prohibit collective bargaining with public employees and to impose other restrictions on public workers' unions.

Brewer spokesman Matthew Benson says the governor doesn't have a position on the union bills. But Benson says there's apparently a misperception that the bills are part of a package with her personnel system changes.

Benson says the personnel system changes are a priority for the governor and that she's frustrated that the package still await action in the Legislature.

In fact, the package has yet to be introduced as legislation.
